Ultrahigh Q SOI ring resonator with a strip waveguide

The design and experimental demonstration of a large, ultrahigh-quality (Q) factor, single-mode operation silicon ring resonator based on strip photonic waveguide are presented. comprises multimode straight waveguides (MMWG), (SMWG), 90° Bezier bends, linear tapers. SMWG used in the coupling region to achieve mode for fundamental without exciting higher-order mode. MMWG, 1.6 μm width, decrease propagation loss. taper smoothens straight-to-bend transition reduces intermode crosstalk at interface between bent waveguides. bend ensures that only maintained propagates with ultralow loss low interference. fabricated this study had an ultrahigh-Q factor 1.54 × 106, free spectrum range 0.036 nm, achieved actual unit transmission approximately 0.25 dB/cm.
